Refusing to accept that the odds of his rap career taking off is weaker than his hairline, WIM opens another TGOS episode with the struggle bars unofficial Washed Chronicles Mixtape prologue. If you manage to survive the first 30 seconds of struggle, this week's Twitter poll is one of our most popular ever when we ask the inevitable question: What is the most intimate? The answer might surprise you (if you're not a Twitter user). What's the most intimate? — WIM of TGOS (@TGOSPodcast) July 26, 2016 We're not done there! We kept it light-hearted this week with a mixtape of topics including but by no means limited to: How black (or not black) is Bow Wow Really? Do women really think everything under 7-foot is short? How to be "less dangers" while Black -- according to Anslem Rocque Is Arthur the Aardvark a savage or tragically misplaced meme? Lastly, a new segment is born: #TGOPrayerCard. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those impacted on both sides of the black and blue. We're back with Part 2: after two tragic shootings of officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, TGOS solicits "Use Your Voice" from our listeners covering their experiences and interactions with law enforcement. In the second episode, we turn it over to our listeners to express their feelings and interactions with law enforcement over the years. An emotional episode covering the every day interactions to a listener's experience with the loss of a family member, we hear the impact of how one bad experience (or multiple) can have on a person's entire life. Tune in and listen or continue to 'Use Your Voice' in the comments below. Share your thoughts on the show or your own personal experiences. We welcome the good, the bad, and the ugly on this one. We'd also like to thank everyone who took the time to call in with their experiences or contact us on Twitter and Facebook. This wasn't easy and we recognize that. We continue to thank all of our listeners--those who shared their experiences on this show and the silent majority among you. A special thanks and recognition to all who support the show goes out today. We appreciate you. Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those impacted on both sides of the blue and black lines. After two recent and tragic shootings of Officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge, TGOS solicits a "Use Your Voice" segment from our listeners regarding their experiences and interactions with law enforcement. In the first of a two part episode on the topic, Rich and WIM originally planned to discuss their views on the current state of affairs, another shooting of police officers in Baton Rouge occurred during the live taping of the episode. This week's show is raw and our feelings and response was recorded in real time as the details of the most recent tragedy unfolded. Later in the episode, WIM opens about how the culmination of recent events led to him choosing to leave behind a decade in criminal justice and law enforcement performance reviews to take a much needed mental, personal, and professional break from the field. I miss my Silverback Gorilla, yall! Harambe, the 400lb, 17-year-old Gorilla, gone too soon. We share our thoughts on: 1) what we would have done as parents if our child(ren) fell into a Gorilla pit; 2) do we agree with the zoo's decision to shoot Harambe; and 3) what we learned about ourselves, the internet, and life from the story of the Gorilla and the 4-year old. On a lighter topic, we passionately debate this week's Twitter poll: Bacon v "Relations" Which is better? — WIM & Rich (@TGOSPodcast) May 30, 2016 As the Memorial Day weekend winds down, WIM & Rich wonder why adulting has so few truly EXCITING moments after Rich asks, "When was the last time you were truly EXCITED about something?" Down goes Banks! Down goes Azealia Stanks!! After 7 years of abusive rants against other rappers, artists, and the regular Twitter community, Twitter finally decided to disable Azealia Banks account, but not before Disney star Skai Jackson managed to Tweet-snatch her edges like only a 14-year old would know how. Equally baffling, Azealia apologized -- something she hasn't done in 7 years. Just when you thought things couldn't get any more confusing, @TGOSPodcast found a small minority, no pun, of Azealia defenders who thought Twitter targeted her for being a woman of color rather than a repeat offender of the sites terms of use, terms which seem rarely applied (agreed) and unequally enforced (also agreed) even when rarely applied by Twitter. As the apartment search continues, Rich is reminded that "privilege must be nice" as he wonders how much of an impact his race is having on his house hunting experience. TGOS Poll: Nice guys still finishing last in 2016? Survey says... In the above scenario have you: — WIM & Rich (@TGOSPodcast) April 23, 2016 A stroll down memory lane reminds WIM of how the past isn't that far in the past. During a recent family vacation, WIM learns that his Grandfather served in World War II as his father shows him where he grew up and the impact segregation -- yes, that segregation -- had on his childhood. Life is put in perspective as he learns his father had to play in the "blacks only" park and that he didn't experience integration into High School. Rich and WIM discuss this generation's *struggles versus those of our parents and beyond. Do millenials really identify with the struggle beyond hashtags and RTs? What are your thoughts? Are our elders right to say their struggles > ours? Or are the Struggle Olympics an endeavor we're all still racing to escape? This episode goes deep with no pause. This week we hit the Digital Dash with the TGOS topics. But first, how does your companies dress code (assuming you follow it) compare to TGOS listeners? What is your job's "dress code"? — WIM & Rich (@TGOSPodcast) April 14, 2016 Main show topics cover: The BuzzFeed video heard (mocked?) around the world -- and the follow-up *apology. We learn Kanye West is a little slow KobeSystem and the impact Kobe's retirement had on TGOS Kyrie Irving; PND; and what's her name reveal the uglier side of Twitter hypocrisy Announcements: Visit the new site and/or join the new email list to find out when PAYCHECKS & BALANCES will be coming to a podcast player near you! "We're not gonna take it!" - Millennials It looks like Millennials are finally locating those "boot straps" old people keep talking about, and guess what? It turns out our boots are tougher to strap than Baby Boomers. #WellActually, even after 32 years of "progress," on average, Millennial 30-somethings are only making 33 cent more than our grandparents were in their 30s. We're not mathematicians here at TGOS, but we're pretty sure life is slightly more than 32 cent more expensive than it was in 1979. We're not the only one noticing this hypocrisy. A good read from the aptly named MoneyAfterGraduation.com laments The Problem With The Bootstrapping Millennial Martyrdom Complex. Surprise, surprise: You don’t need other people to earn less in order for you to earn more. This is an important point that I don’t think many people intuitively understand, but there’s enough money in North America for everyone to earn a living wage. There’s enough money for you to make $50,000, and every single one of your friends, plus everyone you don’t know. Then, as if life wasn't complicated enough for everyone, a recent study found that you might be penalized simply for discussing diversity in the workplace. Apparently, much like Fight Club, there are only two rules when it comes to diversity: Rule #1: Don't talk about diversity; and Rule #2: See Rule #1. S2Ep2: All Polls Everythang

This week on Season 2 of TGOS, it was all polls all the time! Three great Twitter polls ate up the discussion this week, but like all our polls, they were all natural and they were SPECTACULAR. First poll question on deck: Ranked by importance: What's the most difficult quality for you to find when dating? Got your answer? Well, you might be surprised by our results:

Next up, we asked our @TGOSPodcast followers: Are you dating your first choice? We can't tell if love conquered all or 52 percent of people are actively settling but...

But what week in Twitter History woulnd't be complete with out a little made-up drama from our good friends over on Facebook? Seriously, who makes this stuff up??? When a rich woman wants you..."

PS. Who kisses with their eyes open? Probably the same people who sit around making up Facebook memes. They obviously #StayWoke.

**Boyz II Men acapella** "It's so harrrd...to say goodbyyye...to yesterdayeeeeey!!!" It's been a pleasure serving you TGOS family, but with Episode 100 we say "goodbye" to the Main Show...

...and HELLO TO PAYCHECKSANDBALANCES.COM!

Now if you already signed up for our VIP email list (like we remind you to do every week), you would already know this week's 100th Episode is our last Main Show under the TGOS brand name. We're taking our talents to another podcast thread under the new and approved name, Paychecks & Balances. Same old guys, brand new content! Paychecks and Balances will focus on the career advice and debt free topics you know and love without getting new and old listeners confused with our Side Episodes and Washed Chronicles mixtape freestyle (dropping as the interlude to Dre's Detox album): "a look at work and money for the rising professional." That's you, right? So why are you still here???? Click on over to the new site, continue to support us, and follow @TGOSPodcast for TGOS updates. We're not going away, we're changing for the better! We'll continue to use the TGOS thread to discuss events covering life, trials and tribulations on the wrong side of 30+.

Basically, Side Episode = TGOS, TGOS = Side Episode.

If you want to follow the new podcast on Twitter, go on over to @PayBalances.

We spend our final episode discussing two Twitter Polls that made the timeline hit three-fire-flame emoji levels last week! This includes: is it ever appropriate to ask a woman for her social media on the first date; and a NBC-style "what would you" scenario from Facebook after a husband alleges that his wife *stole $50,000 from their joint account to pay off her student loans. What would you do, WHAT WOULD YOU DO??? Well, listen to this week's show to see what TGOS would do, and check the polls below to see what our listeners would do.

Janet Hubert, Stacey Dash, Black Twitter -- what do they all have in common besides ample melanin? Opinions on #OscarsSoWhite. Because washed, it took us a few weeks to finally weigh in on this topic but this week, weigh in we do. While on the subject of ill-thought-out statements, a leak about a potential Twitter upgrade brings out the Conspiracy Brothers in TGOS. To wrap things up on the Side Episode, we answer three great reader questions. Have questions of your own? You've got options! Try out contact page, email us at feedback at twoguysoneshow.com or do you have something so juicy that you need to ask us anonymously? We've got a site for that: Ask.fm/TwoGuysOneShow

  1. What is your outlook on the idea that black men who date inter-racially are automatically self hating rather than getting in where you fit in? I try to date woke black women often, but they tend not to be into me & its frustrating to think I'm expected to sacrifice love for the revolution…
  2. I'm 27, been laid off for 5 months, married with a 9 month old. I just got back into school to get a 2nd bachelors and eventual masters degree. BUT this joblessness is REALLY messing with me and starting to affect my marriage. All the available jobs aren't even worth the time. Thoughts?
  3. Im a guy who graduated from college a lil later then most at 27(married with kids). I currently and the manger at security company, that i would like to work for and they have told me they would. My fear is that they will never see me as anything except the security guy, how do I get past this?

He also discusses how their book, Your Degrees Wont Keep You Warm at Night: The Very Smart Brothas Guide to Dating, Mating, and Fighting Crime, came to be through the vision of fellow site co-founder and co-writer Damon Young. In a more serious segment of the show, Panama opens up about the joys of being a black father and how being a father has changed his views on everything from how he writes to how he sees the world. A telling quote, "my daughter taught me how to be a parent." Tune in for an open and candid conversation on these topics and much more. You'll laugh, you might even cry, but then you'll laugh some more. Want to switch things up and watch the LIVE (playback)? Check out our new (favorite?) platform by clicking over to Blab!

Welp. Progressive or not, our listeners still arent's fans of sharing their salaries with coworkers:

This week a listener writes in with a question so important we decided to address it on the main show:

I know my credit is really bad since I can't even get a bank account and I'm scared to get my credit score since I haven't checked in months (avoiding seeing that low number) as it's such an embarrassing thing to ask anyone about, because judgmental. So question is where/ how do I start to clean up my credit? I've been doing some reading on bad credit and I know I have a long road ahead of me but with the information you guys can give me will be a great help. Is it just a pay what I owe and wait it out thing or can I speed the process up? I heard about credit unions not doing credit checks or getting Cards from mall stores to help improve it what are you guys thoughts on that?

TGOS hits this one from several angles, no pause. First, we consulted with the experts, the credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. We even un-earthed a few gems to share with our listeners from the Federal Trade Commission. Who woulda thunk to research repairing your debt from the government entity responsible for monitoring fraud and business practices. Don't worry, you don't have to answer that. We did the research so you don't have to. We wrap-up with some personal tips from our own lives on how to repair your debt, why we recommend you visit your local credit union (again), and we end with some encouraging words on managing your debt while prioritizing your goals.

Tired of living check to check? Budgeting doesn't have to be complicated. All you need is 15 minutes, a pen and a note pad (example below). The first step to improving the way you spend your money is knowing how you spend your money and where your money is going. You don't need Excel, the latest smart phone, or fancy websites. All you need to do is write down how much money you're making each month after taxes and your monthly bills. This week, we challenge you and our listeners to start a budget. That's it.

Once you figure this out, we'll use future shows to explain what you can do next with this info. Know better, do better! Grab a pen (or phone) and use the example below to figure out your own monthly budget. Listen to this week's show for tips on how to immediately cut expenses and grow that bottom line!

New Year, No (or less anyway) stress! Rich and WIM are back on blab to discuss the first two weeks of 2016 and their plans for the next 50 weeks of 2016 and beyond. Rich wonders why adults don't have Spring Break, or any official break from work when even his "off" days are spent adulting. Our main discussion? How are millenials who make over $100,000 still struggling to make ends meet, and in more good news, Millennials need only make $429,000 to make it into the 1% now. Congratulations.

This week, TGOS tried a new platform for (potentially) recording live shows. To catch the playback, check out Blab (you can also play below). If you've already concluded our faces are better watched on the podcast, you can use your usual podcast-app or website of choice! We discuss why you should immediately add local Credit Unions to your list of loan servicing choices, as WIM uses the recent purchase of a new vehicle to tout one of the many benefits of Credit Unions. We also discuss how to obtain your legally guaranteed free annual credit report (not a plug, or paid site) and the importance of knowing your credit history before you try to make a major purchase. Lastly, we discuss goal setting for 2016 and why you should keep track of your annual accomplishments for work and personal life.

The Side Episode, The Struggle Chronicles, The Washed Mixtape Saga returns colder than ever! WELCOME TO 2016! New year, new you? On that topic, WIM discusses his latest first world problems in the form of a new car purchase. Rich makes a BIGGER big announcement. Plus, what Side Episode would be complete without random conversations ranging from traversing Detroit, why you should be watching Mr. Robot, to answering a listener question by citing dating from the world's largest self-proclaimed adult website: "What do you think is a normal amount of [videos intended for a mature audience with no viewer discretion advised] for a man to watch? HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you had a happy and safe 2016. Starting off the year right, TGOS lays out The Blueprint for 2016: We begin with a discussion on a change in perspective on all things financial management, career advice oriented, and the pursuit of debt freedom and The Freedom Chase. TGOS wonders, why can't Millennials have it all? It might take a different approach, but maybe we can. Let's develop a plan together. Lastly, in a remix to the WIMRANT, WIM drops the WIMResolution, a hopefully helpful insight for the young men (and women) who struggle with expressing more emotions than apathy and anger in relationships and beyond.

Join us and let's make 2016 better than the last. Brand New Year, Same Washed Guys.

The side episode returns. After traveling half-way across the country aka Texas, WIM covers some road-trip-travel-tips he had to learn the hard way. TGOS discusses the heart attack inducing change on Twitter, started from the stars now it's hearts?!? Dis-LIKE! Is diversity for the sake of diversity really diverse? An open letter from Leslie Miley on the lack of diversity of engineers at Twitter causes us to reflect on how important diversity is...or is not...in the workplace. Lastly, in listener's Feedback and Follow-up, we answer the question that has kept many of us thumb-frozen before drafting that final application: Are cover letters even worth it? Struggling to write the perfect cover letter? Hop on over to Rich's TheFreedomChase to read How to Write a Cover Letter That Wins!

TGOS is back with, in the words of brother S.U.N.K, "that Sh*t U Need to Know." On episode Episode 85, we asked are you sure you want to be a manager? This week, we cover how to be a millionaire. In full disclosure, we don't have a get rich scheme or overnight pyramid scheme to sell you. But, if you follow some simple tips for a long period of time, you will make hundreds of thousands of dollars. True story. It's simple math, and the earlier you start the richer you will become. Using some investment tips from LearnVest on the benefits of compound interest and CNNMoney's When Will You Be a Millionaire calculator, WIM and Rich find out the exact year they will be millionaires. Don't have years to make millions? In simpler cost-saving initiatives, Rich covers how simply canceling a few monthly services will save him a few hundred before 2015 ends.

On this week's show, WIM prepares for the move and discusses some (painful) lessons learned that you should consider before, or after, traveling across the country for work and play. On the topic of work-life-balance, Rich and WIM discuss the pros and cons of moving for work, opportunities, or money. In Feedback and Follow-up TGOS answers:

01) For future reference, if someone wants his or her question read on a particular show, what is the deadline for having that question sent to you?

02) I assume you have heard about Raven-Symoné's comments regarding the hireability of certain people with names that sound a certain way. In your experience, does this happen and how much does it happen?

03) I know you have talked about this before, but given the time of the year, could you repeat your comments on benefits and how to decide what is best for someone? (Be sure to also check out episode 081 for more info on Hidden Health Savings: FSAs vs HSAs)

Using a simple formula, we describe how additions like a new apartment, cable, and other small bills can cost you thousands over the course of the year. This week, we answer listener questions, The WIMRant makes a triumphant return, and along the way WIM stumbles on a patent-pending formula for deciding which job will make you the happiest. Please do not steal it. We will sue you and like it.

TGOS Career Happiness Formula (Beta Test):

Which career should you choose?

Step 1: The Formula: Career Happiness Score = #1. pay; rank pay offered on a scale of 1-10 x (estimate how "valuable" pay/income is in your life on a scale of 0-1 with 0 being "not important at all" and 1 being "extremely important" aka ".20") + 2. work life balance x (.20) + 3. management role/career advancement x (.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc x (.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment x (.20)

Step 2: On a scale of 1-10 score each of the 5 categories listed above on a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "horrible" and 10 being "great" based on your career or job offer. On a scale of 1-10, where does your career/job offer rank in these categories?

  • Category 1: Pay/Income (1-10?)
  • Category 2: Work Life Balance (1-10?)
  • Category 3: Management Roles/Career Advancement Opportunities (1-10?)
  • Category 4: Benefits (1-10?)
  • Category 5: Personal Happiness and Fulfillment (1-10?)

Step 3: If applicable, adjust the scale to most accurately reflect the "percentage of happiness" you guestimate each category will bring to your life in parenthesis. One a scale of 0-1, how valuable are the following to you?

  • Pay/Income? (0-100%?)
  • Work Life Balance (0-100%?)
  • Management Roles/Career Advancement Opportunities (0-100%)
  • Benefits (0-100%?)
  • My Job Provides Me Personal Happiness and Fulfillment (0-100%)

Step 4: Solve for your 'Career Happiness Score'

Step 5: The Career Choice with the highest 'Career Happiness Score' will, in theory, make you the happiest. Choose wisely!

Sample Application

Career #1: Jane Doe currently makes $100,000. Jane isn't motivated by money but she knows money matters. While money is important, Jane would prefer to have a better work life balance in a career that gives her more personal fulfillment. Her current job doesn't offer her any personal fulfillment and the work life balance is terrible. When she started, she was warned that in the beginning she would have to travel a lot and work long hours away from her family and friends nationally and internationally. The travel was exciting for awhile but now it's getting old. Plus, the company originally assured her there was an opportunity for career advancement in the near future (2-3 years). Jane has been with her job for 5 years already and it looks like the only constant is change. However, based on her research and conversations with friends, her current job does offer great health benefits.

To better understand her options, Jane updated her LinkedIn using some helpful tips from TGOS podcasts for creating a winning LinkedIn profile--a great show she's been faithfully listening to, leaving five star reviews for, and telling her friends about any chance she gets! She immediately hears from a recruiter.

Job Offer #1: Jane has a pending job offer of $50,000. The potential company offers a great work life balance (flex scheduling, work from home, and is rated consistently rated by employees as one of the the "top 100" companies to work for. She will never have to travel but there is minimal opportunity within the company for advancement in this specific career track. However, Jane already works in an "in demand" field and she believes that transferring or promoting with another company in the future wouldn't be a problem. The new job's benefits are practically non-existent and the out of pocket premiums are much higher.

Using the BRILLIANT patent-pending 'Career Happiness Formula' she heard about on TGOSPodcast Episode 085, Jane decides to see which job might potentially make her the happiest by objectively quantifying what appears to be subjective information. She comes up with the following:

Offer #1 - Career Happiness Score: 6.7

The Formula: #1. pay = 10 (.20) + 2. work life balance = 1(.50) + 3. management role/career advancement = 7(.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc = 10(.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment = 1(.80)

[To copy and paste this formula directly into Excel use: "=10*(0.2)+1*(0.5)+7*(0.2)+10*(0.2)+1*(0.8)"]

Offer #2 - Career Happiness Score: 13.7

The Formula: #1. pay = 5(.20) + 2. work life balance = 9(.50) + 3. management role/career advancement 0(.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc = 5(.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment 9(.80)

[To copy and paste this formula directly into Excel use: "=5*(0.2)+9*(0.5)+0*(0.2)+5*(0.2)+9*(0.8)"]

If you were Jane Doe, which job would you take? What adjustments to the formula would you make? Leave your responses in the comment section below, Tweet your responses using the official #TGOS hashtag on Twitter, or @ us directly with your thoughts @TGOSPodcast.

Are You Ready To Be A Manger? On this week's show we have a good back and forth discussion about the pros and cons of hustling your way up the corporate ladder. With help from an article on Mashable, How to Know If Becoming a Manager Is Right for You, we work our way through 5 questions you should answer before kicking, clawing, and scratching your way into the *comfortable world of middle management:

  1. Do you love meetings?
  2. Do you like to teach or coach?
  3. How are your feedback skills?
  4. Does conflict make you cringe?
  5. Are you the good cop or bad cop?

Along the way, WIM stumbles on a patent-pending formula for deciding which job will make you the happiest. Please do not steal, we will sue you. We look forward to it!

The TGOS Career Happiness Formula (Beta Testing): Which career should you choose?

Step 1: Know The Formula: Career Happiness Score = #1. pay; rank pay offered on a scale of 1-10 x (estimate how "valuable" pay/income is in your life on a scale of 0-1 with 0 being "not important at all" and 1 being "extremely important" aka ".20") + 2. work life balance x (.20) + 3. management role/career advancement x (.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc x (.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment x (.20)

Step 4: Solve for your own 'Career Happiness Score'

Step 5: The Career Choice with the highest 'Career Happiness Score' will, in theory, make you the most happiness.

Example Application:

Career #1: Jane Doe currently makes $100,000. Jane isn't motivated by money but she knows money matters. While important, Jane would prefer to have a higher work life balance in a career that gives her more personal fulfillment. Her current job doesn't offer her any personal fulfillment and the work life balance is horrible. When she started, she was warned that in the beginning she will have to travel a lot and work long hours away from her family and friends. Originally, the company assured her there was an opportunity for career advancement in the near future (2-3 years), but Jane has been with her job for 5 years now and it looks like nothing will change anytime soon. Lastly, based on her research and conversations with friends, her current job does offer great health benefits.

versus

Job Offer #2: Jane has a pending job offer of $50,000. The potential company offers a great work life balance (flex scheduling, work from home, and is rated consistently rated by employees as one of the the "top 100" companies to work for. Using the BRILLIANT patent-pending 'Career Happiness Formula' she heard about on TGOSPodcast Episode 085, Jane decides to guestimate which job might potentially make her the happiest by quantifying what appears to be subjective variables. She comes up with the following:

Offer #1 - Career Happiness Score: 6.7

The Formula: #1. pay = 10 (.20) + 2. work life balance = 1(.50) + 3. management role/career advancement = 7(.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc = 10(.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment = 1(.80)

[To copy and paste this formula directly into Excel use: "=10*(0.2)+1*(0.5)+7*(0.2)+10*(0.2)+1*(0.8)"]

Offer #2 - Career Happiness Score: 13.7

The Formula: #1. pay = 5(.20) + 2. work life balance = 9(.50) + 3. management role/career advancement 0(.20) + 4. career benefits i.e. personal/health insurance, etc = 5(.20) + 5. personal happiness and fulfillment 9(.80)

Side Episodes from the unofficial TGOS Washed Chronicles Mixtape Tour continue. This week we discuss a very late and mildly spoiler-free review of 'Interstellar.' After a weekend of VH1 marathons that included The GameWAGS, and Real Housewives of Every City in America, WIM tries to fix his life. Rich reflects on the Millennial struggle: building someone else's dream versus building your own, where does one find the time (and money)? In Feedback and Follow-up, we answer the following question from our ask.fm/TwoGuysOneShow account:

Have you ever cheated on a woman? Why? I recently found out my boyfriend has been cheating on me for the majority of time we've been together. We were talking marriage. I'm just trying to make sense of it all.

The response reminds WIM of a post he wrote, back in the day, for a listener with a similar question: Why Do Men Cheat? On the SE podcast, he updates his views on the topic.

After a brief hiatus that was just long enough for us to forget how to do anything and everything, TGOS returns. The Struggle is real. This week we discuss why it's important not to fall off in the most difficult part of the year -- holidays, vacation, and PSA: You only have 15 Fridays left in 2015! With this in mind, we cover some tips on how to ensure you end your 2015 strong, so your New Years Resolution won't be "Fix all the mistakes I made in the final quarter of 2015, new year, new me!" We even have some advice for the college students/graduates out there. Do as we say, not as we did. Welcome to the mixtape aka the Side Episode aka all the things we wanted to talk about but couldn't on the main show. On this week's Side Show we talk about 'micro aggressions' and the experiences we've had with them in our own lives. Want more? Check out BuzzFeed's 21 micro-aggressions. In Feedback and Follow-up we clear up a few items from Episode 82 thanks to our listeners. We offer two perspectives on how to respond when your girlfriend wants the password to your phone. We provide tips for successfully navigating salary negotiations. Lastly, but also completely unrelated to personal phone privacy, we share our thoughts on the whole Ashley Madison expose.

Is it possible to know everything? Millennials seem to think so, but are they wrong? Next, TGOS discusses why the key to a successful job search might actually be a termination date. Not convinced all debt matters, yet? Well, a new study shows how high debt levels may hold you back from committed relationships and even marriage. Unfortunately, the battle to manage your finances doesn't end at the alter. Even after marriage, "couples who argued over finances several times a week were more than 30 percent more likely to divorce than those who only did so less than once a month." Listen to this week's show to hear how your spouses debt before marriage impacts you after marriage in the eyes of the law.

In Feedback and Follow-up, we answer questions on when you should use a resume writer and tips for choosing the right service; and how to remove inaccurate and negative information from your Credit Report. Warning: it isn't easy (or fun).

We'll be reaching out to MeetEarnest soon for a possible interview and to answer your refinancing and debt consolidation loan questions. On the Debt Management front, we spend the majority of this week's show discussing the pros and cons of debt consolidation loans, and what things you should consider before choosing a: 1) Consolidation Loan; 2) Credit Card Balance Transfer; or 3) Refinance Loan. We also discuss other things to consider before you choose one or all of these methods when it comes to your credit report and credit score.

#TGOS Tip: Before you rush into that "low introductory balance transfer" credit card offer, slow down and consider these 5 following things:

  1. Most credit card balance transfers will charge an upfront fee of 3-5% percent (or more)
  2. Will you be able to transfer your entire credit card balance or just a portion?
  3. APR is an annual rate. Be sure to divide your APR by 12 (or review your last few statements) to get a better idea of how much interest you're actually paying each month.
  4. Is your monthly interest greater than or less than the amount you'll pay to transfer the balance (3-5% x the balance you plan to transfer)?
  5. Will you be able to pay off the balance before the low introductory rate expires? If no, will your new APR be higher/lower than your current APR?

Remember, you may be best served by staying with your current credit card(s) and paying as much over the minimum payment as you can than making the balance transfer. Exception: if you have an opportunity to do a 0% interest balance transfer with ZERO fees? Take the deal!

In Top of Mind, WIM takes issue with Generation 'Participation Trophy' and Generation 'Politically Correct.' "We're becoming baby lotion soft!" - Old Wim, Washed Chronicles, Volume 1. It wasn't a good week for tech companies:

  • Zirtual reminds us all why your resume should always be up-to-date and to hope for the best, but plan for the worst...

  • TGOS wonders, has anyone been hired thanks to CareerBuilder or Monster.com? #SeriousQuestion

This week's Side Episode is filled with plenty of side dishes. Topics cover everything from the impact the #SandraBland case has had on us and our various social circles; an off-the-cuff 'review' of #Sharknado3; Drake vs Meek Mill; and what it's like raising a dog in a Dog Eats Dog World. On behalf of TGOS, Rich will attend Podcast Movement 2015. We discuss what we hope to gain from attending and why others have chosen not to go. On debt management, Rich covers how bad decisions got him in debt but how positive decisions--and lessons learned--are helping him climb out of debt. From our ask.fm account:

  •  I'm currently seeking a job in a completely different field than I'm in now and I have some reservations about updating my LinkedIn profile to show my qualifications for the job I'm pursuing due to having current supervisors as connections. Should I update it anyway, or stick the resume route?
  • How did you get into supervising/management? Was it something you actively pursued or was it just part of the natural progression of your position?
  • Do your parents know how much money you make?
  • Just got my first credit card after hearing yalls episode on it. My question: I can pay in full every month on it, should I or should I not?

Rich and WIM are back for Side Episode #9. This week in Top of Mind, WIM talks the barber-man relationship struggle and introduces the discussion on parents public shaming their children. The 2 guys also discuss the ESPY's. In Feedback and Follow-Up, they answer the following listener questions from Ask.FM:

  • I'm a 26/BM & college grad. Somehow I became boring/uninteresting to my friends and this happened during the time i spent developing my career. Now I work for a well known company (Google level lol) and I make good $ for my age. Apparently this is also affecting my dating life as well. Any advice?
  • I'm always ending up in the friendzone, how do I avoid this? I meet women, their description of a perfect man doesn't seem too far from who my parents raised me to be, I know I'm not perfect but it's confusing AF to keep hearing their are no good men left and you're standing right there.
  • In salary negotiations (after you have an offer), is it always necessary to disclose what you're making at your current job? Do they ever offer just based on what you're worth w/o knowing what you currently make? Is there any reason I shouldn't give them a number that's $5k over what I really make?

In the WIM Rant, we cover "Is it your job's responsibility to make you happy?"

We're back this week with more discussions on debt management and living #DebtFree. Several listeners have asked, "Should I plan for retirement or pay off my debts first?" You asked, TGOS answered. But, like so many Facebook relationships, it's complicated. Questions to consider include: does your employer offer a retirement-match? Do you have 'crippling debt' whereby all your disposable income is currently dedicated towards debt payments? Are outstanding creditors or private collections involved? Are you on the "right" side of 30? Based on your answers to these questions, we offer advice on how to prioritize debt management versus retirement savings. WIM also shares 4 specific tips he used to pay off over $30,000 in credit cards and loans before the age of 30.

This week on the cast, we revisit interviews and hiring decisions in 'References Decoded' and why it's important to have a strong, reliable reference section (at least 3). Q&A include: how do you determine who to use for external references? how often should you keep in touch with a reference? does title matter? TGOS also discusses the often overlooked, 'internal reference' and why branding/networking remain important even after you leave a company.

On the topic of finances and debt management, we discuss BusinessInsiders' 11 Worst Money Mistakes 30 Year Olds Make and how you can avoid them. Common mistakes discussed include: not discussing finances before marriage; paying too much for your wedding (instead of saving up for your home); and why assuming you'll make more money, "eventually" is flawed. Last but not least, having trouble deciding if you should buy or lease a car? Use this helpful flowchart.

This week, we focus on The Hustle. WIM discusses how 'ring rust' isn't limited to the fight game and how you should prepare for each interview like its your first time. We cover at least three things you should do to prepare for each interview, especially if you haven't interviewed in a few years or months. Introducing the "5 Year Principle," TGOS describes why it's important to continue to update your skills and resume, at least every 5 years. "By the time you realize you need a skill for your next job or promotion, it's probably too late." In this portion of the show, we discuss whether MOOCs will be the training programs of the future and other traditional, cost-effective routes for keeping pace with the increasingly educated competition in your career field.

On this week's Side Episode, we talk about the Supreme Court decision that legalized same-sex marriage in the United States. Why "Marrying Down" can cost women up to $25,000 a year in lost income. Rich introduces us to the newest edition to the family. From soundcloud, LadyRo laments that racism will not end when all those alleged "old racist" pass away. TGOS receives a voicemail from DeltaGal2 with an update on Married on First Sight, and how to "manage up" when your boss is being less than professional around you. We end with this week's WIMRANT: So you didn't plan to be un-married at THIS age...now what?

The Hustle...all hustle, all the time. TGOS discusses work, money, and education choices (first 20 min); and how many "thank you" messages you need to send when you have multiple interviews. A listener asks, "How do you work with a colleague who is essential to your workflow, but they only complete their portion of shared projects if you include their boss in the communication?" Lastly, we review a Bloomberg article on the "best" age to get the most benefit from a Masters Degree.

We spend the majority of this week's Side Episode discussing the latest events surrounding the Thursday, June 18, 2015 Charleston Church Shooting massacre. Were Dylann Roof's actions racism? a hate crime? terrorism? or all three? Does his alleged manifesto provide more or less clarity for his motivations? Should we be concerned that a 21-year-old young man could harbor so much hate and what does it mean for the 'progress' we've made as a country? Most importantly, what happens next or will change? We worry, if recent history is any indication, not much.

In our listener Feedback and Follow-up we cover: a Married at First Sight update, our TwoGuysOneShow Soundcloud comments, "how much money should I be putting towards my 401k?", and when should pursue on-line courses versus a formal graduate program.

This discussion includes tips on Money and Finance and which cost of living adjustment calculators you should be using (herehere, and here!). We also discuss Moving Tips for the non-relocation specialist. Lastly, the softer side of moving across country to work at a job so you can pay for moving across country: how to cope with being away from your friends, family, and the social network you grew up with.

Look, up in the sky... Is it black? Is it white? No, it's #RachelDolezal! Using our own brand of colorful language, TGOS tackles the topic that's been hashtaged and trending all over the Internets. #AskRachel: Can you really change your race on a whim? Is race a state of mind; defined by birth; or subject to personal perspective? Did Rachel have to fight...all her life? In lighter topics, Rich reviews Married at First Sight Season 2 by each couple's relationship dynamic and why he thinks they divorced or stayed together. We find out why Taco Bell is lit. In The Hustle we discuss the importance of updating that LinkedIn profile you've probably been neglecting and why 'Portfolio Careers' might be the career path of the future.

After re-watching 'The Equalizer' WIM realizes he needs to get right with God and memorize a hot 16 or inspirational quote in case he's ever asked, "Any last words?" before his untimely demise. For only $169, "Fit Richard," a new smart-toy, will grade your ability to bump uglies based on calories burned and intensity of thrusts. TGOS also explores the traumatizing world where flashlights collide with pleasure, no pause. An active week of Listener Questions leads to discussions on debt management; we revisit the Responsibly Broke podcast; employee vs employer lies; whether you should really ever live paycheck-to-paycheck; and tips for how you can be successful as employers continue to make interviews more challenging.

On the 'Something Else' show, WIM wonders if you should believe your iPhone over your lying eyes. TGOS provides a semi-spoiler free review of #MadMaxFuryRoad and WIM realizes he might really be a Grown Ass Man this time, and it sucks. In listener Feedback and Follow-up questions range from: elevator pitches and proper networking techniques; transitioning from contract worker to full-time employee; and tips for making time for "date night" while parenting. Inspired by a woman's discovery that she's been accidentally abusing her husband for the last 12+ years of their marriage, the WIMRANT clarifies why men don't need two moms in their lives.

In Top of Mind, we revisit the 'grandparent deficit' discussion. After a trip to the doctor's office, much like the rest of America, Rich realizes why Health Insurance is a cruel joke. The future is here, and you should be afraid, very afraid. In Feedback and Follow-up (28min) listener questions cover long distance marriages (TGOS Ep 62); why men hold on to women's phone numbers forever, ever, ever; "what age do men finally mature?"; why moms have horrible taste in women; and what we common folk can learn from Kenya Moore's situation dating the "married guy." A husband and wife team square off in a run-off for public office. In events that make you wonder "why doesn't he use those amazing talents in other life-pursuits?" a criminal finds a not-so-clever place to hide his fully loaded gun from officers. We switch things up this week - same show, new format. Opening with Hot Topics we discuss the 'grandparent deficit' our generation might face if we keep putting off having children. We listen to vocal fry and how it can impact your job prospects, attractiveness, and people's perception of you, especially women. On a heavier note, TGOS discusses how perception is not always reality, as a college freshman athlete's uplifting social media didn't show people the issues she was facing before committing suicide.

This week, we bring back The Hustle with a Rich Recommends piece. WIM discusses the impact on himself and others when your company faces potential layoffs, how to cope, and lessons learned in going through the process. Gallup's State of the American Manager survey finds, 50 percent of people have left a job to "get away from their manager." TGOS covers why so many people leave to escape people, not companies and how you can improve your relationships as an employee or a manager.

Top of Mind: Twitter, the online 'barber shop?' Rich prepares to attend Wrestlemania and RAW.

Hot Topics (17:30 min): S.A.E. addresses "the black community." Raven Symone *clarifies that she's not African American, she's from every continent in Africa and Europe! In a panic, Deadline wonders if one whole year of 'ethnic' casting is "too much of a good thing."

Feedback and Follow-up (41:39 min): TGOS responds to a listener question about how to handle a recent lay-off, and from our ask.fm/TwoGuysOneShow:

  1. Why do men dislike women who ask questions, especially when it is clear the dude is hiding something or someone? Dating is...more.
  2. I have been with my boyfriend for a year and a half and still haven't met his parents, I have asked him several times but he always comes up with an excuse. His parents...more.
  3. What do you think about the majority of college degrees being earned by women?...more.
  4. If a job has an apply through LinkedIn option, is it better to do that or just use the general application?

The #WIMRANT (1:14:00 min): Back to the Past: So you’re thinking about re-dating your ex?

Yep. Another bonus episode. This time we're talking social engineering (you may do this already), a "controversial" tweet that inspired WIM to share how to become a 401K millionaire in a few easy steps (he gets passionate about this), an unexpected industry to invest in that has big returns, a listener question about marijuana, and somehow we ended up talking about intentional homelessness and other random stuff. **Don't forget to share TGOS with friends. Let people know we exist!**

Top of Mind: TGOS talks about impulse buys and the pros of TWO SINKZ when you finally take the leap of moving in with your significant other. We hope our loyal listeners didn't forget to celebrate March 14th this past week, and if you did, be sure to remind that special person in your life of their mistake!

Hot Topics: At 17:40mins this week, we discuss why size DOES matter after the first, and arguably most important, transplant of its kind was a success. Even the color matched! No pause. Next, TGOS reviews a study debunking the myth of 'acting white' in black culture. In fact, the study found that students with higher GPA's, regardless of race, were more popular. We also discuss the latest news on Oklahoma's S.A.E. chapter's racist chant video and why we feel guilty for not feeling more guilty. Sorry not sorry?

In Feedback and Follow-up, we answer:

  1. From our email at twoguysoneshow at gmail.com: Do men have biological clocks too?

Lastly, WIM teases up next week's WIMRANT with his own question for the listeners: There's a chainsaw massacre and you split up from your SO. Do you: A) look for them; B) look for help; or C) assume they're dead and save yourself? Use our weekly 'poll question' or the comment section below to submit your response.

Top of Mind: Don't call it a comeback, boxing been here for years? NBC attempts to bring back our boxing, prime time edition. WIM is mildly impressed, while Rich wonders if GChat (or Google Hangout?) is doing too much.

Hot Topics (21:00 mark): A young man travels from Ohio to China in search of love, only to drown his sorrows in alcohol, which TGOS thinks he could have done locally for a lot less money. Women not up for $200 dates in Ohio? Speaking of $200 - $250 dates, adjusted for your local man's average first date expenses, TGOS finally tackles the epic Black Twitter Bingo trending topic: $200 dates. If you can't afford to date, should you just give up on dating? TGOS survey says, "nah."

In Feedback and Follow-up, from our ask.fm page:

  1. Have either of you ever dated 1 of your followers/fans?
  2. Is it bad if your friends and family dislike your fiance? I've asked them...more.
  3. My ex won't leave me alone. He's seeing other people...more.

(Note: Top of Mind was published as a bonus episode this week. It was in the iTunes and Stitcher feeds a day early. You can read what we covered there below)

Top of Mind? 14 seconds...Ronda Rousey took less time than your average Instagram vid to claim victory at UFC 184. WIM was not amused. In 'moving on up to the East side' news, WIM explains the cons and cons of purchasing a terrifyingly envasive new home security system. TGOS gives a special shout out to Cinemabunpodcast Episode 33:  bad black movie reviews' 30 days. Lastly, TGOS finds a new way to find a new bae at ebae dot com!

The Hustle asks, "should you care what people think about you?" YES! Rich covers how to build and improve your brand and why that's important in all interactions. You're always building a brand. Using Personal Branding Tips, TGOS explains 5 areas you can improve your brand on- and off-line and how developing your personal niche and maintaining consistency is important when distinguishing yourself from the crowd. If you're interested in being a mentor or mentee, TGOS recommends a quick read: 9 keys to a successful mentorship. Currently involved in 3 mentor programs himself, WIM covers 5 tips you'll need to use to make your mentorship a success from the perspective of mentee or mentor. Lastly, in Feedback and Follow-up TGOS discusses the difficulty of maintaining a relationship when you have competing financial goals.

This week's Top of Mind segment ran long so we (Rich & WIM if you're new) removed it from the main episode. Rather than deny you the recorded banter, we're releasing it as bonus content. Listen to hear us discuss the arm bar from hell, WIM's winter moving struggle, a new home security system that's causing him both peace of mind and discomfort, our guest appearance on Cinemabun podcast, Rich welcoming his birthday month, thoughts on getting older, ebae.com (a real thing), and Rich's Catfish chronicles.

Don't forget to check out episode 59! We have great discussions on reputation/personal branding, mentorship, and more.

TGOS58 opens with some bad movie talk followed by a discussion on why you should begin saving for retirement as soon as possible. WIM talks about how diversifying his retirement and investment accounts lowered his 2014 taxable income, netting a 35% higher tax return in just one year. Under his current investment strategy, which he advises people as young as 20 to begin following, WIM will save over a million by age 55--not that it will be worth that much by then, as TGOS also explains the sad reality of inflation. TGOS also discusses the importance of, at least, investing up to your employer's match and the benefits of doing so as early as age 22 versus 32 (millions, bruh). Next, TGOS revisits the benefits of using the Mint app or any budgetary tool to help with daily or monthly budgeting goals. Rich also covered his current struggle to accomplish everything with limited time.

In Hot Topics (39:50mins) Amber Rose versus the Kardashian Konsortium continues into its second week. We find out a judge mandates that a man pay $30,000 in back child support, for a child that isn't even his. In app news, Fortune Magazine discusses 6 dating apps designed by women that all (coincidentally?) prevent men from contacting the women first. The WIM #StopApproachingWomen movement lives on!

Hear our responses to Feedback and Follow-up as well as the ask.fm/twoguysoneshow questions at 1:06:00mins. Last but not least, Rich Recommends covers how to get hired at Google even when you "sound unintelligent despite your ivy league degree" and WIMRealizes he's getting old, again (1:34:30mins).

On TGOS 57 WIM discusses the 'power of social media' after he uses the @TGOSPodcast Twitter account to negotiate the successful surrender of a warranty deal from a company that was refusing to honor their behind the scene agreements. Funny how that works! In tragic news, a listener contacts Rich to reveal that his alter ego attempted to Catfish her on a dating site. (11:30 mins) The streets aint safe! In Hot Topics (34 mins) Rich and WIM have a heartfelt discussion about how they would handle the news of a 34 year old man with a very serious problem, where we are all forced to realize that All Erections Matter after the young man accounts how he plans to do his best to rise to the occasion in a personal confessional to BroBible. We discuss the #ChapelHillShooting and lack of media coverage, until Twitter's trending topics forced the conversation to be had. Next, WIM is reminded of an episode of the Tyra Banks Show were women debated what was worse from a scale of prostitute to stripper, as Khloe Kardashian and Amber Rose have a public war of words on a similar topic on President's Day. Last but not least, TGOS wonders: Will Millennials usher in a new wave of open relationships? The #Monogamish struggle is real. Finally, TGOS (1:22:30) addresses this week's round of listener questions from our ask.fm/twoguysoneshow account (1:30:00).

We bring to you TGOS Episode 56, the V-day Special! On this episode we discuss the return of Valentine's Day and what it means for men everywhere (nothing good, btw). In Top of Mind, Rich recalls a terrifying tale of inappropriate behavior and indecent exposure. Also, has Rich found the key to successful Valentine's Day navigation (4:00 min)?! Keeping with the theme of the show, we skip to Feedback and Follow-up (28:00) to address our relationship-themed ask.fm/twoguysoneshow questions, which include our thoughts on Should you celebrate Valentine's Day with someone you've just started dating? and Why is it difficult for men to pursue a career AND a woman at the same time? Finally, the WIMRANT explains, "Why Men HATE Valentine's Day!"

Last but not least, TGOS wishes you and yours a Happy (made up, pointless, why do you force us to participate?) Valentine's Day.

Like Anderson "Spider" Silva in UFC183, we make our triumphant return! WIM finally wraps up his Breaking Bad binge in Top of Mind but can't figure out why everyone in the movies hides their car keys behind the visor. Rich talks about types of friendships and how they redefine themselves over the years with a little help from T.D. Jakes' Confidants, Constituents and Comrades speech. In Hot Topics (37:00 mins), TGOS finds there is still some positivity left on the Internet in the form of Humans of New York: Vidal Scholarship, a program which helps send inner city kids to Harvard. We also discuss the now infamous woman who married herself at age 40, and in unrelated news, the fact that 'woman on top' is the most dangerous position for the fellas in the bedroom. Also, WIM wonders if the #FriendZone is no longer politically correct, and maybe even sexist, according to some angry folks on the Twitter. The Hustle (1:17:00) covers 'Rich Recommends' for the week, IFTTT. And last but not least, the #WIMRANT (1:24:00) answers how men can confront an unfaithful.

Rich shares his new DIY guilty pleasure, HGTV's Love it or List it, while WIM tries to figure out how every HGTV couple can afford a seven-figure property. Hot Topics addresses Salon's article on being forced to suppress your blackness to get along with white people. Also, TGOS discovers 80 billionaires are wealthier than everyone else on Earth, or at least 99 percent of us. WIM gives you just the tip on a health-related article about the most dangerous position while promising to go deep on this topic next week. In Feedback and Follow-up and The Hustle TGOS addresses our first round of ask.fm questions, among other questions, like how to negotiate raises and pursue a personal hobby outside of the 9-to-5.
